On May 21, 2020, a 14-year-old Romina Ashrafi was killed by her father because, in his opinion, she “dishonored” him by having previously escaped from home with her 28-year-old lover Bahman Khavari.
They loved each other for several years and Bahman proposed to her to marry him. But Romina’s parents opposed marriage because of religious differences. As a result, the lovers escaped. But the police found them and returned the girl to her family, despite her warning that she could be in danger.
Her 37-year-old father, Reza Ashrafi, beheaded Ramina with a sickle while she was sleeping, and surrendered to the authorities. Bahman Hawari was arrested for kidnapping.
